Contention Ratio The ADSL services currently available are contended. Since bandwidth is not infinite across BT's network users have to share it. The Bluespine services offer contention rate of 20:1. This means your data path between you and your ISP is shared with anyone else with an ADSL line en-route. Don't panic however. This does however represent a worst case scenario i.e. the minimum guaranteed contention.
In practice your ADSL line will run much faster than your 'onward' connectivity.
(the slowest part of the link will be the internet since that is where
the highest number of users are sharing limited bandwidth)
